DESCRIPTION:It is our great pleasure to invite you to the Cyber-MAR Vessel Pilot Event that will take place in a Hybrid mode\, both in Plymouth and online (via Zoom Platform)\, on 05.05.2022\, at 10.00-13.00 CE(S)T /9.00-12.00 BST. \nCyber-MAR is a European project\, funded under the Horizon 2020 Work Programme. SUMMARY:56th EMPA General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:EMPA is a non-profit organization\, created in Antwerp\, Belgium\, in 1963 by pilots of the newborn European Community. Nowadays EMPA regroups member countries associations of maritime pilots from the Baltic Sea\, the North Sea\, the Atlantic Ocean\, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. \nEMPA represents about 4.500 maritime pilots from 19 European Union member countries\, and 5 neighbouring countries\, Georgia\, Norway\, Turkey\, Ukraine and United Kingdom. \nThe role of EMPA is to facilitate the exchange of information between its members in order to continuously improve the professional and technical proficiency of maritime pilots in the EU and surrounding countries. \nThe EMPA Board was pleased to be able to organise the General meeting again in physical form without any specific measures. \nThe 56th EMPA General Meeting was organised on 27-28th of April 2022\, online. \nCyber-MAR project was represented by Dr. Kimberly Tam by University of Plymouth. DESCRIPTION:After a hiatus of almost three years\, Nor-Shipping\, Your Arena for Ocean Solutions\, was “back with a bang” in Norway between 4th and 7th April 2022. \nFigures released by Nor-Shipping’s management team showed a healthy spread of exhibitors\, strong participant numbers and\, as evidenced by the lively atmosphere in both exhibition and event venues\, an obvious desire for physical meetings again. \nIn total\, exhibitors were drawn from 34 countries\, with visitors representing some 83 nationalities. For the first large-scale industry gathering of its kind since the pandemic began\, Nor-Shipping says it was “delighted” to see such a robust international spread. There were over 21\,000 unique visits to the exhibition halls\, approximately 8\,000 guests at social venues in Oslo city centre\, and about 150 separate\, and packed\, associated and partner events. \nCyber-MAR project was\, also\, there\, represented by Professor Kevin Jones (University of Plymouth). Professor Kevin Jones delivered a presentation on ‘Securing Maritime‘\, on 6. Apr\, 14:30 – 15:00 at Hall E – Technical Seminar E1. \nHis presentation included an executive summary of the latest maritime cyber threats research from the University of Plymouth\, including real attacks on ships’ IT&OT physical twins. DESCRIPTION:Cyber-MAR & FORESIGHT projects were glad to invite you to the Joint Webinar that was conducted online\, on 18.01.2022\, at 10.00-12.30 CET\, via Zoom platform. \nThe webinar “Cyber-Security challenges and future perspectives” was the continuation of a productive collaboration\, that started almost a year ago\, among the sister projects Cyber-MAR and FORESIGHT.  \nIt served as an introductory event to the upcoming joint Winter School on Cybersecurity that will be conducted in the last week of January.  \nSecurity depends on us! \nThe user must not represent the problem but an essential part of the solution. DESCRIPTION:The Hellenic Association for the deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS Hellas)\, has been successfully organised the 7th ITS Hellas Conference which was held in Athens and online\, on 8-9 December 2021. \nThis hybrid Conference was held under the theme “Transportation & Logistics 4.0: Exploring Innovation”\, focusing on the challenges\, the needs and the benefits that will be brought by the progression in the area of transportation in Greece. \nThe detailed programme can be found here. \nSEABility & PEARL attended the event\, by being also one of the conference exhibitors\, presenting Cyber-MAR H2020 EU project. In their booth\, visitors and participants had the opportunity to learn more information about the activities in relation to their participation in European Research and Innovation Programs\,  focused\, among others\, on the areas of cyber-security management in the maritime transport sector.

SUMMARY:International Association of Maritime Economists 2021 Conference 'Accelerating Transitions'
DESCRIPTION:Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)\, together with Delft University of Technology (TU-Delft) organized the 2021 IAME conference in one of the main gateways to Europe\, under the name Accelerating Transitions. The aim of the conference was to bring together experts in all aspects of ports and maritime research\, from all parts of the world and to stimulate the exchange of new ideas\, relevant insights and cutting-edge research results.  \nThe location of Rotterdam offered the unique opportunity to visit one of the most modern ports in the world and to join specifically organized interactions with experts and business leaders in the port’s industry. In this light\, the city of Rotterdam and its related port industry also very much welcomed the IAME conference\, also under its initiative to develop into the Maritime Capital of Europe. \nThe IAME conference took place on 25\, 26 and 27 November 2021 in Rotterdam. The conference was truly hybrid in its form\, as besides a physical conference\, an attractive online environment was created\, also allowing online participation from home countries.  \nStavros Karamperidis from University of Plymouth attended the event and delivered a presentation on Cyber-MAR project entitled: ‘Cyber Awareness Raising – An Integrated Maritime Cyber Risk Management Approach’ during the session ‘The digital transition: blockchain and cyber security‘. The first one was Mr.Fabio Bisogni\, Vice President and delegate for Educational Offering UNINT (Rome University for international studies) and president of Fondazione FORMIT\, background Economy with an Executive Master in ICT Engineering\, external expert in ENISA Working Group on economics of security and resilience.professor at UMA. The second one was Mr. Linas Bukauskas\, professor at Vilnius University\, faculty of Mathematics and Informatics with experience in cybersecurity\, including cyber trainings and exercises. \nThey recognized and acknowledged the work done during the second year of the project’s lifetime and at the same time they pointed out some important remarks and provided useful advices for future improvement.

DESCRIPTION:The University of Plymouth and the Royal Navy have joined forces to conduct research and advance understanding around the future potential of marine autonomy. \nThe partnership will see world-leading academics\, in fields including autonomous marine vessels and maritime cyber security\, working closely with navy personnel on a range of innovative projects. \nThat will include Project Hecla\, established in 2018 to optimise the Navy’s ability to collect and exploit hydrographic and oceanographic information. \nThe University will work with the project team on ways to enhance its feeding back of vital survey information to the UK Hydrographic Office and the RN’s highly skilled HM cadre. \nThey will also look at harnessing the capabilities of the University’s unique and recently opened £3.2 million Cyber-SHIP Lab\, which aims to secure maritime operations through cyber resilience research\, tools and training. \nThe partnership was formally launched during a visit to the University by Rear Admiral Andrew Burns CB\, OBE\, Director Develop of Navy Command\, and other senior navy personnel. \nHosted by the Vice-Chancellor\, Professor Judith Petts CBE\, and academic staff from the Faculty of Science and Engineering\, they were given a tour of the new Cyber-SHIP Lab and other facilities within the Marine Building. \nThey also visited the waterfront Marine Station\, where the University’s own fleet of autonomous marine vessels – including the uncrewed surface vehicle USV CETUS – is based. \nAmong other projects\, Cyber-MAR was discussed.

DESCRIPTION:Completion announcement\nOne of the objectives of Cyber-MAR is to cover the training needs for all professionals (cyber-security/IT experts but also non-IT-expert personnel of ports\, shipping operators and linked entities influenced by possible cascading effects) and most importantly to raise the cyber-threat awareness level within those organisations by hands-on training. \nThe Cyber-MAR intermediate level training courses and the entry level training on managing cybersecurity took place virtually between 15th and 16th of June 2021. \nWMU colleagues\, in cooperation with the Cyber-MAR partners\, successfully conducted the 2-day training\, as the second of three levels of the training programme. DESCRIPTION:The first European Workshop on Maritime Systems Resilience and Security (MARESEC 2021) was dedicated to the research on Resilience\, Security\, Technology and related Ethical\, Legal\, and Social Aspects (ELSA) in the context of Maritime Systems\, including (Offshore/Onshore) Infrastructures\, Navigation and Shipping\, Autonomous Systems\, etc. The intention of this workshop was to bring together researchers to present new results and ongoing projects as well as to exchange experiences and explore possible cooperation. \nThe workshop took place virtually on 14th of June 2021. \n \nUoP colleagues prepared a technical paper entitled ‘Enhanced Transparency: Improving Maritime Cyber Governance‘\, which is now under publication process in the conference proceedings and has been presented during the workshop. \nThe presentation can be found here. \nThe technical paper is available here. \nThe conference programm is available here.
